SyFy = jerks

Not only will the “SyFy” channel be world known as a bunch of alt-spelling douches, they will also be known for hating their major demographic! Yay!?

The internet has asploded lately with the news that the former Sci Fi Channel has changed its name to SyFy. Why? Because they want to be less geeky…because geeks are apparently not “cool consumer” enough for them.

Now, branding I understand. Sci Fi is an uncopyrightable genre. So, fine. You wanna spell your channel name like a rich person with a grudge against their private school spawn, you go right ahead. But I don’t understand the reasoning that they want to get away from their geek image.

The channel exists for geeks to watch. The primary purpose of the channel is to service geeks with 24/7 nerdgasms. But according to the president of SyFy geeks aren’t human:

“We’ll get the heritage and the track record of success, and we’ll build off of that to build a broader, more open and accessible and relatable and human-friendly brand.”

Dude. Not to be outdone, Tim Brooks (one of the channel’s founders) said:

“The name Sci Fi has been associated with geeks and dysfunctional, antisocial boys in their basements with video games and stuff like that, as opposed to the general public and the female audience in particular.”

DUDE. And “Mr. Brooks said that when people who say they don’t like science fiction enjoy a film like “Star Wars,” they don’t think it’s science fiction; they think it’s a good movie.”

Those “people” are fucktards and shouldn’t be allowed to use lighters or sharp things. Morons who don’t understand shorthand of the words “science” and “fiction” placed next to each other in a sentence shouldn’t be the deciding factor in changing the name of a channel designed for a specific genre (which does nothing to the genre itself anyway – so his point is moot).

So SyFy had 2 choices. They could bow to moronic incompetence or they could do better at promoting their product… Incompetence for the win!
